SKINPEN DEVICE

ALL ABOUT MICRONEEDLING

  • Microneedling is a non-surgical procedure that creates tiny micro channels in the top layers of the skin stimulating the body's own healing process by promoting collagen production.

The increased collagen helps to smooth the surface of the skin, minimize fine lines and wrinkles, reduce the appearance of acne scars, and diminish dark spots (melasma).

  • Every appointment includes a consultation as part of the service. Before each treatment we can discuss your areas of concern and address any questions you may have. During this time we will determine if this treatment is safe for you.

  • Yes! Health Canada has approved the use of SkinPen primarily for the face and neck although it can be used on other parts of the body as well.

Unlike laser therapy, this treatment is safe for all skin types and can be completed any time of the year.

  • There is a slight discomfort during the procedure, often described as that of a minor sunburn.

A topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area prior to starting the procedure. It is recommended that a POST-care kit is purchased to provide added value and accelerate healing time. You can purchase this online or in clinic.

Please avoid taking Ibuprofen, Motrin and other blood thinners 3 days prior to the treatment.

  • The device I use is called SkinPen which is the ONLY Health Canada approved microneedling device.

You can read more about it here.

  • For best results, 3 treatments are recommended. Each treatment takes approximately 30-45 minutes depending on the areas treated, and the sessions should be booked 4 weeks apart.

  • Not quite. The treatment area will also include the surrounding skin/tissues.

For example, if you have acne scars on your cheeks, the session will include treatment for the entire face, not just the cheeks.

  • You will experience minor sensitivity at the treatment sites with the most common side effects being redness, itching, mild swelling, tenderness and skin flaking (after 2 days).

Any discomfort is typically compared to that of a rapidly fading sunburn. These side effects usually clear up within 2-7 days.

Post-care products are highly recommended to aid in recovery.

  • Please come 10-15 mins. before your appointment to fill out consent form.

Avoid wearing makeup, but we do have facial cleansing wipes for use.

Avoid alcohol and blood thinners/NSAIDs (Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Naproxen, Aleve) 24hrs before and on the day of appointment.

  • Yes! To get the most out of your skincare investment, it's recommended to have annual sessions.

Just like the dentist checks your teeth every year, this once a year appointment ensures your skin is well maintained.

  • You may experience tenderness at the treatment site which can last a few days.

There may be mild swelling and/or bruising at the injection site.

It is common to feel a firmness at the treatment site for the first few days-weeks. Over time the area will settle and soften leaving a hydrated youthful look.

Post care products are highly recommended to aid in recovery. I recommend Hale derma, ask me for details about this product.

  • Avoid hot tubs/showers, steam rooms, saunas, other heat treatments (facials) and rigorous exercise that causes excessive sweating for at least 24 hours.

Avoid touching, picking or scratching the treatment area(s).

Avoid applying makeup to the treated area for at least 24 hours as open injection sites are more susceptible to infection.

Avoid direct heat, RF, laser, IPL treatment for 4 weeks.

Avoid drinking alcohol for a minimum of 12 hrs as it can contribute to bruising/swelling.

Tylenol and Arnica can be used for discomfort, avoid NSAIDs as they can contribute to bruising.
